An Infinitely Better Kind of AI
Here is an AI that we can get excited about. I don’t mean Artificial Intelligence. Artificial Intelligence is useful in a few cases, but extremely dangerous, and should be regulated far more tightly than nuclear power. What I am referring to is Angelic Intelligence. Angelic Intelligence is totally and unreservedly useful, and essential for extricating ourselves from our self-inflicted disasters.
If we were infused with Angelic Intelligence, lying would be more repulsive to us than dunking ourselves headfirst into a barrel of mashed-up rotten eggs. A liar would be more repulsive to us than a man who made a habit of smearing himself in road-killed skunk juice. Our Savior calls the Devil “The Father of Lies.” He also seems to indicate that when we lie, we make ourselves into children of the Devil. Christ also associates lying with murder. (John 8:44). Every great injustice of the last hundred years would have been impossible without lies, from World War One, to the current genocide in Gaza. If we were infused with Angelic Intelligence, it would be impossible for a known liar to make his way in polite society, let alone get elected to public office at any level.
Think on this: “Everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed.” But he that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds my be made manifest. (John 3:20). Here Christ presents wickedness as the opposite of truth. There is a reason why every good person in history had an uncompromising commitment to truth, whereas every wicked person did not.
Vaguery is another form of untruth. Just read anything ever written by the World Economic Forum. Notice how vague it is. That is a clue that they are probably evil. CS Lewis was on to this. In his Perelandra trilogy, the institutionalized evildoers constantly insist on vagueness.
If we were infused with Angelic Intelligence, self-indulgence would be less common. I might say to myself “hmm, a kitchen remodel would make this house really nice, and I think I can afford the $15,000 price tag.” Or, “Instead of the Honda Civic, I think I’ll get the Lexus. It is an extra $20k, but I can swing it.” But then I would say to myself, “wait a minute, I know there is a family somewhere out there in the world that is good, and works hard, but because of various circumstances, has no home. I bet I could I build them a nice comfortable home for fifteen or twenty thousand dollars. I think I’ll do that instead.”
If we were infused with Angelic Intelligence, it would be as difficult to ignore the sufferings of others as it is our own pain. Ignoring a starving person would be like ignoring my own hunger pangs. Abuse and exploitation would be as unthinkable as putting your own hand into a blender.
You know what amazes me, is how much energy we put into titillating ourselves. This struck me when I saw the absolutely gigantic assembly of thousands of carloads of people, all in line to get into Disneyland. Are we trying to hide from the medicine that we need? The medicine of Christ and His angels?
I think that the four Gospels of the New Testament are actually (among other things) a handbook on Angelic Intelligence. I think that is the reason why, if you go to a Catholic service on Ash Wednesday, they say “read the gospels, and sin no more.” The significance of this phrase cannot be overstated.
I believe that if you read the Gospels slowly, contemplatively, regularly - on paper, not on a screen - Angelic Intelligence begins to reveal itself. But don’t read with the machine-thinking that you learned in school. Machine thinking will never have any hope of understanding Angelic Intelligence. Try to use feeling-thinking, or intuition-thinking. It is much more difficult. It is still probably only a faint shadow of angelic cognition, but it at least starts us in the right direction.
Consider, one clue as to whether a Christian faith is a true one, is if it places the Gospels as far and away the most important part of the faith. (At least, the most important written part). Think about it, they are the account of the life of Christ, and they contain the words of He whom the religion is named after.
But there are other sources. It would be naive to think we got one angelic communication around 2,000 years ago, and then nothing since. I think there have probably been people in every generation who were gifted with the ability to communicate with angels. Today, one person (among many) who seems to be able to do this is a writer named Are Thoresen. In his Travels on the Northern Path of Initiation, he reports on his angelic encounters. It is profound, and not anything like what I would have expected.

There are many levels of angels. Some are unfathomably powerful and remote. Some are closer. Our guardian angels, which every one of us has, is the closest and most accessible. I have the impression that it loves us unconditionally, like a mother loves her child. That may be why angels are often depicted as female: Because we are depicting the kind of angel that is most observable to us, that has the feminine quality of unconditional love.
We may have entered a phase in human evolution where a rediscovery of Angelic Intelligence is essential to our survival. May God help us.
